Hiring time cut by 40%
A company's hiring was slow and spread across manual steps and tools. I helped build a desktop HR system on Electron — from the architecture to a custom Trello-style candidate board, Firebase sign-in and tests — and shipped it as a signed macOS app. Time-to-hire went down by 40%.
The problem
Recruiting new employees was slow and spread across manual steps, and the company's other HR processes were scattered too.
They wanted an internal HR system, in the spirit of tools like Hurma, to simplify recruiting and bring the company's HR processes into one desktop app.
What I did
- Set up the architecture and main configs from scratch for an Electron desktop app, and worked on both the frontend and the backend.
- Designed and built a custom Trello-style board for the hiring pipeline: each candidate is a card that moves through the stages, so the whole team sees the state of hiring at a glance.
- Built authentication on Firebase.
- Wrote tests covering about 90% of the critical functionality, so the team could change the app without breaking hiring.
- Picked the approaches that best met the business need at each step.
- Signed the app and released it for macOS.
Result
- Time-to-hire reduced by 40% after hiring moved into the system.
- Signed and released for macOS.
