No-code app builder ready for Web Summit
A startup building a no-code platform for creating mobile apps in the browser had two months to show an alpha at Web Summit. I built a Figma-like style system with live changes of colours, fonts and positions, the UI kit and authentication, and moved the architecture from singletons to a reactive model with MobX. The alpha shipped on time and reached 500 active users in its first month.
The problem
The product let people build mobile apps in the browser without writing code. Its pitch depended on one moment: you change a colour, a font or a position, and the app updates in front of you.
The team had two months to get an alpha ready for Web Summit, and the app's architecture was built on singletons.
What I did
- Designed and built a Figma-like style system: colours, font sizes and the position of elements change live on the screen.
- Moved the architecture from singletons to a reactive model with MobX, so a change in one place flows through the whole UI on its own.
- Built the UI kit, which sped up development for the whole team.
- Implemented registration and authentication.
- Worked on both the frontend and the backend, and worked closely with designers and backend developers so the pieces fit together for the deadline.
Result
- Alpha released in 2 months, in time for Web Summit.
- 500 active users in the first month.
